(Ghislaine) Vantomme ( since 04-2019) 1.0 Mission The intriguing prospects of the science and technology of molecular engineering, synthetic chemistry, nanotechnology and large supramolecular functional architectures are used to define challenging research topics. Exploring the many possibilities of supramolecular chemistry, the group aims for the design, synthesis, characterization and possible application of complex molecular systems for functional materials and systems. The overall target of research will be focused on the non-covalent synthesis of complex supramolecular objects. In interdisciplinary activities, both natural and artificial systems will be investigated. Our first priority in the research performed, however, remains the trainingof young students toget them familiar with the fascinating world of molecular engineering and train them as independent scientists. This priority does not always coincide with the complexity of the concepts and syntheses when they are in the hands of new (PhD) students. As a result of the above, the mission of the group is defined as: To educate young students to become independent researchers through training in the design, synthesis, characterization and possible application of complex molecular systems with unconventional properties. With the research activities performed, the group aims to bridge the gap between life sciences & materials science and organic chemistry & polymer chemistry through exploratory investigations of supramolecular systems.
