Chemical and Process Technology (CPT) 11 reactions, membrane extraction and liquid coating/collisions, a two-fluid model with integrated mass and heat transfer and a large range of phenomenological models. For gas-liquid, we have a front-tracking model for bubble dynamics and a discrete bubble model for large-scale investigations. Prospects Development in the research field The research field is expanding and Fausto Gallucci, member of the SPI group until 2018, has meanwhile formed his own research group. His group now focuses on the development of membranes and membrane reactors, whereas SPI remains focused on process intensification, as mentioned in the research themes. As for fluidized bed membrane reactors, an important remaining research topic is on how the fluidization characteristics can be optimized through compartmentalization via proper positioning and configuring of the membranes. For chemical looping processes, the current focus is on the development of chemical-looping reforming processes for the production of hydrogen (including Ca-Cu looping), chemical-looping air separation (CLAS) for the production of oxygen, chemical-looping CO 2 valorization (conversion of CO 2 to CO) and chemical-looping oxidative propane dehydrogenation. With modeling and experimentation, both packed-bed and fluidized bed reactor concepts are being investigated and evaluated, including the preparation, characterization and testing of the oxygen carriers. In addition, we
