3 Our university is built on passion. On and off our campus a lot of students and researchers do what they do because they believe it’s right. Because they know not doing anything is unthinkable. They always follow their passion, seek for opportunities for later generations and create value for society by turning their knowledge into system and technological innovation. Creating value is in the DNA of our university, it is who we are. The bright minds you will read about in this booklet are doing nothing but follow their passion. These students are the greatest talent our university has to offer. In each category – BSc thesis, MSc thesis, EngD thesis, and PhD thesis – one of them has received an award. But just to be nominated is already a huge achievement. Every nominee was selected within their own department or from their bachelor/graduate program from an extensive pool of outstanding theses. The whole TU/e community, including myself, is so extremely proud of what these students achieved. The juries were also greatly impressed by the ambition level of the projects that were carried out by all nominated candidates. It is truly nice to see so many talented people focusing on important matters and really achieve something. Because that’s what we stand for. We don’t only care for our TU/e, each other and ourselves, but we also care for the world around us. I feel this is characteristic of the young generation. These talents actually want change by fighting for a better world. We are definitely proud of that! In this booklet we honor these nominees because we all see these young talents for what they do, the connections they make and the values they radiate in our vibrant community. Because that is what matters, that one can stimulate or infect others with their own passion for research. These rewards are for all the passionate people that love what they do and make our campus community a better place to live.
